Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for meeting patient priority needs by assessing, participating in interdisciplinary care planning, providing and /or delegating care and evaluating patient responses and progress toward clinical outcomes. Contributes to an efficient and effective work environment through activities including professional communication and documentation, precepting and/or resourcing of others.

Supervises Licensed Practical Nurses and/or other support staff in the delivery of patient care as described in Nebraska Statute 38.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  2. *Initiates assessment and reassessment based on the patient's presenting problems/needs in accordance with Bryan Medical Center's procedures.
  3. *Synthesizes pertinent initial and ongoing patient data to identify nursing priorities for care and desired outcomes/goals.
  4. *Integrates appropriate standards of care into the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis and patient-specific needs.
  5. *Executes therapeutic and/or supportive interventions.
  6. *Provides education for the patient and family to meet identified patient needs according to their needs, abilities, preferences and readiness to learn.
  7. *Evaluates the patient's response to and effectiveness of interventions.
  8. *Evaluates patient's progress toward established outcomes.
  9. *Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan/delivery of care.
  10. *Includes family, significant other, or identified support person in the care of the patient as appropriate.
  11. *Documents patient care and related information according to Bryan Medical Center procedures for documentation.
  12. *Provides care in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  13. *Facilitates patient's transition to the next level of care.
  14. *Actively participates in continued learning opportunities and continued self-development pertinent to the work unit and duties of the job.
  15. *Accountable for activities occurring in the facility during their scheduled shift.
  16. *Responsible for promoting patient and staff safety, providing accurate and clear communication, delegating, and serving as a resource.
  17. *Oversees general activities and provision of patient care consistent with standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  18. *Performs duties essential to unit operations while maintaining a professional and positive interpersonal communication style.
  19. *Assists daily staff assignments based on competency, skills mix, patient census and acuity; assigns new admissions as necessary.
  20. *Promotes the use of effective bedside shift reporting.
  21. *Assists with clinical decision-making and interpretation of established procedures.
  22. *Serves as a leader, mentor, team builder and problem solver including adherence to all regulations and standards.
  23. *Works closely with maternity services manager(s) to empower staff to actively participate in service/unit and overall nursing practice committees/councils; mentor staff in quality performance efforts and fosters a culture based on continuous improvement.
  24. *Accountable for consistent completion of hourly rounding, post care calls, individualized patient care, AIDET, patient safety, patient perception of care.
  25. *Assists with daily, and future staffing needs to ensure nurse staffing coverage is available on a consistent basis by referencing the staffing grid. Manages sick calls and alters the daily schedule in the absence of nursing administration. Resource leadership as needed to meet needs difficult to fill.
  26. *Ensures that the team lead checklist is completed every shift.
  27. *Work closely with Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Educator to collaborate educational opportunities, and orientation.
  28. *Ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory standards

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Must provide evidence of certification and/or instruction for practice area as required by State or Federal standards/regulations.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. ACLS and NRP required within one (1) year of employment.
